Treatment Steps

There are different types of teeth extraction procedures such as simple extraction, surgical extraction, surgical removal of root tips etc. The goal of each is the same, removing a tooth in question. First, patient's tooth and the treatment area is numbed, so patient doesn't feel any pain while performing extraction. Once numb, incision in the gum is made and tooth is pulled out with the help of forceps, elevators and other dental instruments. Then the gum is stitched up and patient is asked to bite down on a gauze to prevent further bleeding.

Does Tooth Extraction Hurt?

Patient is numbed up beforehand, so tooth extraction should not hurt. Sometimes if patient has heavy infection, patient may not get numb. In that case, patient is prescribed antibiotics first to get infection under control and then patient is brought back in few days for tooth extraction. Also when tooth extraction is performed, pressure is applied which is sometimes confused with pain.

After getting tooth extraction, patient is required to follow strict protocol as below,
